My Teacher of the Year

A few weeks ago we were really worried about Dallas not having a job next year.  I believe there were over 500 teachers that got laid off in Katy ISD.  It was a very stressful time for us because we thought Dallas would always be safe in the field of education.  God always has a plan though.  Dallas did get to keep his job.  He was 1 out of 2 first and second year teachers at his school that got to stay. Here are a few pictures from his last month at school this year.

Teacher Appreciation Week he gets very spoiled by his students (They all love him)!  He gets the sweetest notes from parents saying how much their kids enjoy his class and what an influence he has on them.  I love going to restaurants and seeing his kids get so excited to see him outside of school.

After that was sports banquet where he gets up to talk in front of all the kids and parents about basketball and tennis season and hands out awards.

Last week was the Faculty vs. Student basketball game.  I didn't get to go this year so I don't have pictures or proof of how, according to him, he "dominated" those boys.  He said he felt like a celebrity because all the kids were giving him high fives all the way to class after the game and the next day.  I tell him jr. high kids sure are good for his ego! :)

Only 2 1/2 more days and he will be out for the summer!  A break he very much deserves!

April festivities

For Easter we drove to Abilene to see our families and the progress of the new house my parents are building.  We haven't been home since Christmas and the drive seemed to take even longer than normal!  It was a fun and relaxing weekend to be back home in Abilene.  I didn't take any pictures of my parents house but I will next time!

This past weekend my sisters and I hosted a shower for our youngest brother Addison and his fiance Charlee.   It was a couples shower complete with burgers and outdoor games.  It was very windy but still a great time!

I always love being around family!

Now off to dinner for our 2 year anniversary!

Haircuts

So Dallas decided that it was time for me to be his hair stylist.  Which is a pretty easy job because he just buzzes his hair and done.  So we bought a kit the other day and here we go....

He refused to wear the cape in the kit....bad idea!

And then decided the leaf blower was a good way to clean off the hair...

I got my hair cut a few days ago too...but no worries not by Dallas!

Lately

Here are a few things we have been up to lately...
We went to Dustin's parents house to relax at the lake at the end of February with our small group.  Even though we couldn't get in the water it was a fun weekend playing games, fishing, making s'mores, watching movies and just hanging out!  Here are a few pictures from the weekend:

At the beginning of March a few of us from work went to Atlanta, Georgia for a Dolphin conference (Dolphin is our computer system at work). It was fun getting to travel with everyone and learning about new features in the system.

Attempting to act like teenagers...

A few days after the trip I was lucky enough to get my wisdom teeth taken out.  Let's just say it was not a very plesant experience.  I woke up from the anesthesia to see something sticking out of my mouth and hearing the sound of her hammering on my bone before they knocked me out again....at least I didn't feel any pain! According to Amy they were suprised I woke up from the anestheisa because they gave me enough to knock out a large man. I was also knocked out by the pain meds for a few days and of course Dallas got sick at the same time so we were a lot of fun to be around the first few days of spring break! Here's a picture Tamara took of me at work my first day back....don't worry we were not seeing patients that day!

On Thursday of spring break we went to the Rodeo to see the Zac Brown Band.  We both agree it was the best concert we've ever been to and we also loved watching the rodeo! On Friday Tim & Crystal drove over from his parent's house to stay with us one night.  And yesterday we planted seeds in the flower beds so hopefully we will have pretty flowers I can blog about soon!

The excitement for tonight was Dallas killing a snake....which is pretty crazy because Dallas HATES snakes!!

Just wait til you see how big this snake is...

And speaking of hating little squirmy things....I HATE lizards! And we have them all over our house and plenty were hanging around when we were planting flowers.  So I'm thinking of starting a business of selling the lizards, of course as Dallas catches them for me!  I definitely know some cute little twin boys who have a birthday coming up soon...beware Misty the lizards are coming to live with you! : )

...or maybe I should just hire them to come hunt the lizards for me and pay them in cookies!

Birthdays, Photography & Love

My blogging has turned into a once a month occassion but I guess that's ok for now.  Since the ski trip it seems like we have been busy busy every week!  Here we go to catch up on the last month....

Basketball season is over as of last weekend so things will hopefully slow down for a while.   Coach B went undeafeated this season until the end of the year tournament (which is an improvement from last year's team!).  Kerr & Traca were in town for a wedding and got to see his last game and get a picture in the gym before the game.

For Dallas' birthday this year I decided I would try to make his mom's receipe for banana pudding that he loves so much.  According to Dallas, it turned out pretty good!  Everyone at bible study loved it too - even though Dallas did not want to share with them...(I guess we know who is going to have to teach our kids how to share one day!)

For my birthday this year we got to take pictures for our first wedding.  Thank you to the Schmidt's for the opportunity!  We have been talking for a while about trying to get our photography company going...just needed an opportunity to see if we really liked it.  I will admit it was a lot of work and we were exhausted by the time we got home Saturday night but it was a lot of fun getting to capture those special moments for Catherine & Patrick! We have been working hard on our website and editing the pictures so we can start generating more business.  And hopefully by this summer Dallas will have something else to do besides sit on the couch and watch tv! :)

Kerr & Traca bought flowers & a cake to celebrate my birthday on Friday night.  I also got beautiful tulips from Crystal! Dallas took some cool close up pictures of the flowers...

On Valentine's we celebrated by going to our favorite restaurant in Katy - Hasta La Pasta! It was delicious as usual.  They had a special Valentine's dessert (chocolate hearts & cinnamon ice cream) that was soo good! Dallas also bought everything to make chocolate covered strawberries....my favorite!!

In other exciting news...our good friends Case and Kimberly got engaged since my last post!  Kimberly and I are 12 days apart and have so many memories together! She has been at pretty much every birthday party since I can remember and now we live in the same town and still get to hang out! She was a bridesmaid in my wedding and now I get to be a part of her special day too.  We can't wait to see them tie the knot in June!

Playing dress-up one day at Kimberly's house....aren't we cute?

Random Summer Addition to my February Post:

Our friends/neighbors Amy & Dustin go to Lake Livingston to visit his parents often.   Over the summer we got to go with them one time and play on the coolest lake float ever!  This part of my post is for my Aunt Susie who has a house on Lake Brownwood....I think our family needs to invest in one of these so we can have "king of the float" competitions when we all are at the lake!! I'm not sure what it is called but pretty much just trying to stand up on the thing for more than 5 minutes is a challenge when more than one person is on it.

Even though Amy and I are neighbors I just now got these pictures off her computer.  That is why this random part of my post is in February! :)

Keystone, CO

We just got back from our trip to Keystone and it was a blast! This was the first time we have gone skiing together (well not really but we don't exactly count 8th grade FCA ski trip because we didn't even talk to each other then).  We both decided to try the snowblades this time because we had heard great things about them.  We loved them! As many of you know I am definitely not the best skier :) (I like to go slow and not turn into a snowball when I ski down a mountain!) but the snowblades made me feel more confident so I could go a little faster without falling! Dallas, on the other hand, was flying down the mountain like a pro on the first day skiing since the 8th grade.  Other than skiing some of the things pictured below: the awesome chocolate milk in a cute restaurant in downtown Denver, Dallas eating his mint oreo bark from Rocky Mt. Chocolate Factory, our friends that went on the trip with us, in front of Lake Dillon (which we tried to walk on but sunk too far in the snow before we could get there),  cool ice sculptures that were in the village and Dallas night skiing.

We loved being in beautiful Colorado and one day would love to go back!
